Javan rhinoceros - Population & Distribution

And then there were two

Previous Population and Distribution
The Javan rhino historically roamed from north-eastern India through Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam, and the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java. Most of these populations have disappeared in the last 150 years.

Current Population and Distribution
Today only two known populations survive: 28-56 individuals on the Ujung Kulon peninsula in western Java, Indonesia, and no more than 8 individuals in Cat Tien National Park, Vietnam. Both groups belong to distinct sub-species.

It is possible that other scattered remnant populations exist in Thailand and Indochina.
